This Spring: Hit the Refresh Button on Your Home!
The milder days of spring are a perfect time to do a thorough spring cleaning and perform home maintenance. After a long winter, it is a good idea to spend time on preventive measures to help maintain your home throughout the year. These are some of the tips that experts agree are the most important tips for your home as the spring season approaches.
Change those Filters!
One tip that rang in unanimous with the spring home experts is changing the various filters around your home. Your air vent filters should be changed out every 3-6 months depending on the type. Do you use water filtration on your tap or do you have a stand-alone filter? When was the last time you replaced or cleaned your vacuum's filter? It's all too easy to forget! And while ionic air purifiers are filter-less it is important to remember to clean those plates according to the manufacturers guidelines. Doing this will assure your family isn't exposed to potentially harmful dust and contaminants.
Check and Replace Batteries!
Experts also recommend to make sure to change the batteries in your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors. Test all smoke alarms and CO detectors, and change out batteries as needed. It's cheap and it only takes a few minutes.
Clean the Windows!
Spend some time cleaning your windows inside and out with a store-bought or homemade window cleaner and use a squeegee or a soft cloth to bring in that beautiful Spring sunshine! Never use abrasive cleaners or a high-pressure spray washer; you don’t want to scratch the glass or crack the caulking around each window.
Clean those Gutters!
The number one task that came up repeatedly throughout our research is cleaning the gutters. Yes, we know this is the most daunting task of all to complete and it’s so abhorrent that you would rather pay someone to do it than go through it yourself. But make sure that if you decide to get up there and clean them yourself that you secure your ladder and wear gloves!
Don’t leave your home unrefreshed! A little home maintenance in the spring can go a long way to keeping your home safe and secure throughout the rest of the year.
